One of the most picturesuqe ski resorts of Dolomites, Alta Badia is a popular holiday place bot for Italians and foreigners. Within the mountain peaks are located old Ladin villages La Villa (1433 m), San Cassiano (1537 m) and Pedraces (1324 m), and on the crossroads the main town Corvara in Badia (1568 m).
Val Badia stretches along small river, which starts from Sella Ronda range to meet river Frienza near Brunico, where is the local train station in the direction of Brixen.
In La Villa the road from Brunico splits, and one part goes through Falzarego Pass to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Near Corvara the road splits again to encircle the famous Sell range.
This unique location allows skier to ski not only in Alta Badia, but in adjacent resorts of Dolomiti Superski : Val Gardena, Val di Fiemme/Fassa and Arabba.
Recently has been finished a single ski-lift which connects the area with resort Plan de Corones.
But even if you limit yourself only to Badia still there are over 130 km of perfect runs served by 54 lifts. The season starts at December and lasts till the end of April. Traditionally before Christmas Badia hosts the competitions of Alpine World Cup on the demanding run Gran Risa.
Near San Cassiano, one can try famous ‘true descent of the Lagazuoi’ the Armentarola piste – that has an altitude difference of 1,130 m and stretches for 7.2 km, which makes it the longest run in Dolomites.
The unique landscape tempts not only the downhill skiers, but also the lovers of cross-country skiing, who can enjoy here 35 km of white tracks, and a spectacular event Sellaronda Skimarathon. And if you do not want to rush, there are still snow shoes 'Ciaspole' for slow walk, or popular here horse sledges, for movement without use of walking.
